KFU and Alayen Iraqi University discuss cooperation prospects

KFU was represented at yesterday’s online meeting by Vice-Rector for International AffairsTimirkhan Alishev, Head of the Cooperation Development Section of the International Office Konstantin Fedotov, as well as representatives of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologie –Pavel Krylov, Deputy Director for Research,Alim Kemalov, Chair of the Department of Oil, Gas, and Carbon Materials Technology, Ruslan Kemalov, Associate Professor of the same department, Mohamad Almohamad Alfandi, Assistant Lecturer of the department, Ameen Al-Muntaser, Research Associate of the Research Laboratory for Generation, Storage, and Transportation of Hydrogen and Low-Carbon Energy Carriers, and Alfayaad Assim Gani Khashim, a graduate of the department.
Opening the event, Vice-Rector Timirkhan Alishev spoke about the university’s international activities, its educational opportunities, and key development areas. Professor Alim Kemalov then delivered a presentation on the IGPT. He presented information about the university’s main research areas, educational programs, and laboratory facilities. He also focused the meeting participants’ attention on the applied research conducted by the Department of Oil, Gas, and Carbon Materials Technology.
Alayen University was represented by President Haider Abdul Amir Marhoon, his Assistant for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies Nasir Ali Hussain, Dean of the College of Engineering Firas Faiq Kadhim, Vice Dean of the College for Academic Affairs Sarmad Kadhim Dhiab, Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Murtada Dugaim Abdullah, Head of the Department of Laser Engineering Hasnaa Mohammed Hasan, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering Basim Ali Kreidi, and Secretary of the University Council Maitham Al-Musawi.
Haider Abdul Amir Marhoon presented the educational structure, key areas of training, and research activities at Alayen University. He expressed gratitude to Kazan University for the meaningful dialogue. The university president emphasized that the Iraqi side is very interested in collaborating with KFU.
“Alayen University is relatively young and is successfully developing a number of areas, including engineering, natural sciences, and medicine, while also implementing a full range of basic medical programs. Iraq is an oil-producing and oil-and-gas-refining region, so issues related to oil and gas production, preparation, transportation, and refining were the focus of our discussions,” Timirkhan Alishev said, summing up the meeting. “We agreed on cooperation between scientists from the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologiea and their colleagues from Alayen University, with whom we have signed a memorandum of understanding. Furthermore, we invited young representatives of the Iraqi university to the Youth Scientific Congress of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which will be held this fall. There is a track related to oil and gas technologies there. I would like to note that KFU is establishing cooperation with several Iraqi universities, and I believe Alayen University will be among them.”
According to Alim Kemalov, the KFU representatives received an invitation from the President of Alayen University to visit Iraq to discuss cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
“At the meeting, we discussed the possibility of jointly training master’s and doctoral students and discussed the implementation of joint research programs. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for cooperation in the development of oil and gas fields. We plan to discuss our cooperation on issues related to the collection, preparation, storage, transportation, and processing of hydrocarbons,” said Alim Kemalov.
Ruslan Kemalov gave a brief presentation. He emphasized the possibility of implementing integrated modeling and design technologies for the production, collection, transportation, storage, and processing of natural and associated gases and gas condensates, developed at the department, into joint training for Iraqi and Russian undergraduate and graduate students.
Alfayaad Assim Gani Khashim, who recently presented his PhD dissertation at Kazan Federal University, noted the importance of introducing modern technologies for designing oil and gas fields into the scientific and educational process.
