Representatives of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology and Yangtze University discuss cooperation with KFU

The guests arrived to take part in the 3rd ROSTKI Russia-China Forum in Kazan.
The delegation comprised Vice-Rector for Research of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology Nguyen The Vinh, International Program Coordinator of said institution Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, and Professor of Yangtze University Xu Peng. Both universities have previously signed memoranda of understanding with KFU.
On Monday, 18 August, the three visitors joined the Russia-China educational cooperation panel at ROSTKI Forum, where Ms Thao presented her university’s general situation and cooperation strategy with Russian and Chinese partners.
On Tuesday, the guests toured the laboratories of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, including facilities dedicated to in-situ combustion, catalytic aquathermolysis, geochemistry, X-ray CT, 3D Geo Center, and others.
On Wednesday, the final day of the visit, they were welcomed by KFU’s VIce-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev. Deputy Director of IGPT for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships Ildus Chukmarov and International Cooperation Officer Yury Nurmeev also joined the talks.
Vice-Rector Nurgaliev spoke about KFU’s current priorities in geology, petroleum science, oil chemistry, and environmental science. He mentioned KFU’s Carbon Polygon, a facility tasked with monitoring the emission and sequestration of greenhouse gases.
Professor Xu mentioned that he specializes in offshore oil extraction and proposed cooperation in this area. He said that Yangtze University is eager to establish longtime multifaceted cooperation with our university – in the same manner that already exists between KFU and some other specialized petroleum science institutions of China.
Deputy Director Chukmarov spoke about the Center for Advanced Training’s short courses and internship offers and its experience of providing services to international clients, including China and Vietnam.
Dr Nurgaliev commented after the meeting, “Representatives of these universities invited our teachers to give lectures and students to study on an exchange basis. I believe that we could also develop joint programs for training master’s and PhD students so that they could study half the time in one country and half in another. I think we will still have the opportunity to discuss options for our cooperation in more detail.”
In conclusion, Vice-Rector Vinh said, in particular, “I came to Russia for the first time and I am very glad that I am visiting Kazan Federal University – one of the best universities in Russia. It made a strong impression on me. It has a wonderful infrastructure, excellent conditions for work and study. In addition, the university amazed me with its hospitality. I hope that our students and teachers will come here to study, to do scientific research in oil and gas.”
After the meeting, the visitors proceeded to the Main Building, where they toured the History Museum and the Memorial Classroom and talked with Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev.
Colleagues from Vietnam exchanged gifts with both vice-rectors and invited KFU representatives to join the festivities on the 60th anniversary of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, which are scheduled for November 2026.
