4 reports were presented by KFU’s Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons on 22 – 24 April.

The extensive program of the event was attended by more than 15,000 specialists in hydrocarbons and energy from 300 companies representing 24 countries. The delegation of Kazan University comprised Mikhail Varfolomeev, Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Vladislav Sudakov, Deputy Director of IGPT for Innovation, Alexey Malakhov, Research Associate of the Laboratory of Enhanced Oil Recovery, and Said Shadi Abdulrahman Abdo, Junior Research Associate of said laboratory.

“Our research focuses on the systematic study of the effectiveness of hydrothermal conversion of Domanik formation oil shales in Russia. The topic of the report is interesting from a scientific point of view for several reasons. Firstly, our research solves the urgent need for alternative energy sources by studying the potential of oil shales. Secondly, the study delves into the technique of hydrothermal conversion, which is a new approach to the extraction of synthetic oil from shale deposits, potentially offering a new understanding of effective methods of energy extraction,” said Said Shadi Abdulrahman Abdo.

The 2024 conference was dedicated to affordable, sustainable and clean energy. The event brought together industry representatives. Some of them made presentations, and expert opinions were voiced separately on future achievements, problems and trends in the respective areas.

The reports of KFU scientists presented the results of developments together with partners from oil and gas companies. The current projects are of great practical interest.

“These sessions were devoted to oil recovery technologies, well processing, new technologies for transporting and storing gas in hydrated form (solid gas technology). The interest shown by specialists from different countries and companies will mark the beginning of cooperation and expansion of projects of Kazan University in the Middle East,” commented Dr Varfolomeev.

OPES 2024 included a major exhibition, plenary and technical sessions, as well as poster presentations for knowledge exchange. This is the largest such event in Oman. Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, OPES provides an effective business and networking platform that serves as a key meeting place for energy professionals, oil and gas companies, politicians and decision makers, as well as stakeholders.
