Junior Research Associate Maria Shipaeva commended at SPE Water Lifecycle Management Conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi
She contributed to the event held on 5 – 7 March.
The conference included plenary sessions, roundtables, and an exhibition. The topic of the conference is especially relevant at the present time. The oil and gas industry faces new challenges and opportunities in water resource management. Sustainable growth requires a holistic approach that combines operational efficiency, cost optimization, and environmental responsibility. Today, the majority of the world’s hydrocarbon production comes from conventional and unconventional reservoirs, and this conference aims to explore and demonstrate the strategies, technologies and best practices that define the industry’s current water management lifecycle.
Shipaeva’s report Study of formation brines of oil fields for the source of hydro-mineral raw materials was awarded for high quality.
She comments, “Petroleum brines are liquid ores from which salts can be extracted for later use. Since water is produced along with oil, a promising solution is to use installations to extract all the raw materials available there. Then the raw material is sold, and the water is returned back to the reservoir. Thus, according to the type of circular economy, additional income is obtained from the extraction of oil and water, and new technologies for the extraction of hydromineral raw materials are attracted.”
