Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons expanding links with Sultan Qaboos University
Representatives of the Institute visited the Oil and Gas Research Center (Sultan Qaboos University) in Oman, which is used to develop the latest technologies, including enhanced oil recovery and other promising methods.
The main topic of the dialog was the development of joint projects in which IGPT employees are actively involved. According to the plan, they will be realized both in Oman and in Russia.
“This is not our first visit to this center. Earlier joint projects with Daleel Petroleum LLC were implemented. It was decided to strengthen cooperation between our organizations,” commented Mikhail Varfolomeev, Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
Specialists of the two scientific organizations will continue joint work on creation of the latest technologies and staff training. The area of interest of the Oil and Gas Research Center is predominantly field development, enhanced oil recovery, hydrocarbon processing and creation of materials for the oil industry, which is also the focus of the Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons’ activities.
“During the visit, we discussed technology implementation in local oil and gas companies such as Oman Petroleum, PDO, MEDCO, OXY, OQ. It is worth noting that today Oman is a country with large deposits of extra-viscous oil. The technologies that were developed earlier at our Center are of significant interest for local oil companies,” said Vladislav Sudakov, Deputy Director for Innovation of IGPT.
“There are certain agreements on the development of cooperation related to the application of new materials and chemical reagents for the oil and gas industry in Oman,” added Varfolomeev.
In the nearest future, the sides plan to sign a cooperation agreement between SQU’s OGRC and KFU’s CLH.
