Carbonate Sediments 2025 Conference opens at KFU
On 13 – 15 August, the participants are discussing pertinent questions of this niche topic.
Deputy Director for Marketing of the Gazpromneft-KFU Center Vladislav Sudakov explains, “This conference unites young and experienced researchers of carbonate sediments for a second year in a row. We try to make it interesting.”
Acting Director of the Institute Vladimir Silantyev noted at the opening ceremony, “This conference really makes sense as a research and practice event – every report contains both a fundamental and an applied part. Very pleasant to see leading experts and young scientists here at the same time.”
In the evening, the Director invited everyone to visit Shtukenberg Geological Museum.
Deputy Director for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships Ildus Chukmarov welcomed everyone and informed that a good bulk of over 3 billion tons of oil extracted in Tatarstan has been from carbonate sediments. He invited everyone to join a thematic short course, Carbonate collectors: genesis, secondary changes and study methods, at the Center for Advanced Training.
President of the Russian Association of Geologists, Geophysicists and Engineers, Head of Geology Education at Gazprom Neft Vladimir Vorobyov, presenting online, wished everyone productive work and said, “The carbonate sediments conference is a good platform of experience exchange.”
After the opening ceremony, the Structural-facies zones of the Kama-Kinel trough system and their role in the comprehensive assessment of oil and gas potential and prospects for the development of host deposits panel session took place. It involved experts from Gazprom Neft, Moscow State University, RN-BashNIPIneft, Tatneft, and KFU.
“Carbonate collectors are complex sediments containing about 60 percent of global oil reserves. The conference aims to unite experts in this field and present best research and practices to enhance carbonate collector development,” opined Research Associate of KFU’s Laboratory of the Studies of the State and Evolution of Underground Reservoirs Marat Validov.
Moderator of the Development, drilling and well survey section, Chief Research Associate of Gazprom Neft Alexander Shandrygin shares, “The Carbonate Sediments conference is interesting and important and attracts many of our colleagues from different regions. It covers very complex issues of geology and productive reservoirs with carbonate collectors. We have a sizable number of carbonate collectors in our country. I think that discussions on such important practical and scientific topics can lead to new ideas in carbonate collector development and enhanced oil recovery, which is very pertinent for the national economy.”
The second day is going to include a plenary report by Professor Vladimir Morozov and the Modern geological and geophysical methods for modeling fractured zones in the development of carbonate rocks and increasing drilling efficiency roundtable, as well as a test run of a new strategy game created by IGPT employees, The Battle for Black Gold: The Epoch of Carbon.
The third day includes a ship voyage to Pechischi, a village near Kazan containing reference sections of the Permian system.
