KFU representatives attend Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES) exhibition and conference
At the event, Maria Shipaeva, a senior researcher at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, presented a paper on geochemical field monitoring, Carbon Dioxide Utilization in Underground Natural Reservoirs. The paper generated considerable interest among representatives of the oil and gas sector.
During his stay in Muscat, Mikhail Varfolomeev, Director of the Kazan Federal University’s Small-Tonnage Chemical Technology Park and Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, also visited oil and gas and oilfield service companies in the region and the country’s largest university, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS).
“OPES participants included virtually all oil producing and oilfield service companies from the Middle East and beyond, as well as companies producing equipment and chemicals for the oil and gas industry. Scientific and technological centers and educational institutions were also actively represented at the event,” said Varfolomeev. “The event, held under the auspices of Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, is the country’s largest in oil and gas technology and energy and an excellent platform for establishing cooperation. Official meetings were held with companies producing chemicals for the oil and gas industry, as well as oil producing and service companies. Of particular note was a meeting with a delegation from OQ, led by Dr Ammar Al Ojaili, Vice President for Development, Science, and Innovation, where a wide range of issues related to the development of further cooperation were discussed.”
Varfolomeev noted that OQ is one of the largest companies in Oman, covering the entire process chain: from oil production and refining to petrochemicals and fertilizer production. After the conference, he visited the company, where he met with managers from various departments, including those responsible for the preparation and transportation of hydrocarbons.
“We have taken the first steps toward cooperation with UTAS,” concluded the scientist. “KFU is already actively working with another major university in Oman, Sultan Qaboos University. We hope that our collaboration with UTAS will be equally fruitful. We were able to visit their laboratories specializing in chemical methods for enhanced oil recovery. We plan to sign a cooperation agreement.”
Dr Varfolomeev’s visit to Oman concluded with a working meeting with the management of the oilfield services company Ras Al Hamra, which provides services to oil companies not only in Oman but also in other countries in the Middle East, and is interested in developing technologies for intensifying oil and gas production.
