KFU scientist contributes to expert club discussion

Volga Expert Club convened at Bashir Rameev IT Park on 26 January with participation from Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Mikhail Varfolomeev.

The guests discussed science issues, as the year 2024 was named the Year of Scientific and Technological Development in Tatarstan.

“I can say one hundred percent that today the attention to this sphere and its support are the highest, despite the difficulties in the geopolitical situation. The national project Science and Universities confirms this. Fundamental research is supported, cooperation aimed at applied research is developing. A lot of programs to support young scientists are created and implemented, youth laboratories are opened, there is the Priority-2030 program, and a huge number of projects of the Russian Science Foundation. And this is all being done in a very systematic way,” opined Dr Varfolomeev at the meeting.

He spoke about Russia’s Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development (signed in 2016), “We moved from an area-based approach to a challenge-based approach. The challenges are formulated so as to assist in national development, in the growth of human capital, and also to spur our country’s work on large-scale scientific and technological tasks.”

In Tatarstan alone, the Science and Universities national project has received 12 billion rubles in funding since 2020. In addition, 2.6 billion rubles have been allocated to advanced engineering schools (one of which is hosted by KFU) and university technological entrepreneurship platforms.
