Open Doors Day held for prospective enrollees

Over 60 young people and their relatives arrived in person – including people from neighboring cities and even provinces – to learn more about programs offered by the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies.

Before the event, the high schoolers were offered small interactive games, such as mineral determination, puzzles, and others.

The guests then proceeded to the Institute ballroom, where Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev spoke about the importance of geological education, “Russia has enormous mineral reserves. Therefore, the professions of geologist and oil worker will always be in demand in our country. I majored in geophysics and graduated from the Faculty of Geology in the Soviet years, which I have never regretted. I love to travel, discover something new for myself, I love nature. Over the years of study and work, I have been able to visit many wonderful places not only in Russia, but also in the world, I worked on all continents of the globe, including Antarctica. … We have a motto at the institute: “We graduate successful and happy people.” Successful because the professions of geologist, geophysicist, oil developer, geochemist are highly paid, and most importantly, in demand. And usually, our graduates occupy high positions in good companies, have high salaries, and all other benefits. So they are successful. These people are happy because they have an interesting profession related to travel, discovery, and exploration of natural objects.”

Acting Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies Vladimir Silantyev noted that geology has always to be in pace with time, including the use of such cutting-edge technologies as neural networks, “Geology is a science that includes almost all disciplines from the school curriculum – physics, chemistry, mathematics, geography, informatics. Therefore, every schoolchild who has knowledge of one of these subjects is already partially familiar with geology. We also help students to choose the direction in geology that they will be interested in. Many of our students work in laboratories and conduct scientific research together with their senior colleagues. In this way, they find their path and become financially independent. And most importantly, I would like to emphasize that geology never gets outdated, as it is constantly absorbing new technologies, recently, for example, neural networks and artificial intelligence. Enroll in IGPT, and you will definitely find an interesting direction for yourself.”

Deputy Director of IGPT for Marketing, Director of the Center for Advanced Training Ildus Chukmarov added, “I know firsthand about the quality of education in IGPT, as I myself graduated from it, and my wife and eldest daughter also became its graduates. My son and younger daughter chose other institutes, but also at KFU. Your main task is to enter IGPT, and further we will help you to form a successful trajectory of professional life. Do not worry if, for example, you did not manage to enroll petroleum engineering.. At our Center for Advanced Training, you can take professional retraining on this program in parallel with your basic education. Those enrolled in the petroleum engineering program can obtain a diploma as a geologist or geophysicist. In the same way you can strengthen your knowledge by retraining in economics and English. There is also a program in oil production operation.. This certificate gives the right to undergo practical training at workplaces with a salary. Your relevance will depend on your knowledge obtained at the Institute. It is not by chance that our graduates work in such large companies as Rosneft, Tatneft, Gazprom, Surgutneftegaz, LUKOIL, TNG-Group, and others.

The guests then toured the Shtukenberg Geological Museum with its minerals, rocks, meteorites, a mammoth skeleton, and one of only three multimedia globes in Russia.
