KFU represented at Future Technologies Forum

The annual flagship event, which presents innovative technologies and scientific developments that determine the vector of development of economic sectors in the coming years, was held at the World Trade Center in Moscow. The participants included Mikhail Varfolomeev, Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, and Irek Mukhamatdinov, Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Enhanced Oil Recovery.

The forum brought together representatives of ministries and departments, industrial companies, engineering centers, and the scientific and educational community on one platform.

The topic of the discussion touched on new materials and chemistry. An eponymous national project si being launched this year. Its goal is to create infrastructure and conditions for the production of chemical and biotechnology products, new composite materials, and extraction of rare earth metals.

“Rapid changes are currently taking place in these areas, which in turn create the ground, spur the next, even more revolutionary discoveries – in healthcare, industry, microelectronics, in the creation of unmanned systems, in all areas without exception. It is absolutely obvious: to be among the leaders in key areas of scientific and technological development, and this is the task we set for ourselves, we need to achieve excellence in chemistry and in the creation of new materials,” President Vladimir Putin told the forum participants.

During the event, Mr Putin met with Russian and overseas scientists. They discussed prospects for cooperation in science and education. The program of the Future Technologies Forum included an exhibition of projects, 4 thematic blocks, 37 sessions, totalling over 230 contributors.

Representatives of Kazan Federal University took part in two strategic sessions – “Creating the Foundation of the Future” and “Megascience Complexes”.

The Future Technologies Forum demonstrated a high level of interest from the scientific community, business and the government. The event brought together more than 1,700 participants from Russia and 37 other countries, including more than 350 representatives of Russian and foreign businesses. Experts outlined solutions that, in their opinion, will accelerate the introduction of new materials and ensure technological independence for Russia. It is worth noting that the new materials and chemistry industry has become a focus of a separate national project for technological leadership. Steps to achieve such leadership were discussed during the two days of the forum.
