Institute representative contributes to Pipes 2023 conference
The 25th meeting of Russian pipe industrialists was held in Chelyabinsk on 13 – 15 September.
A thematic roundtable on energy transition for sustainable development was organized by Russian Research Pipe Institute, subsidiary of TMK (Pipe Metallurgy Company). It was moderated by Deputy Director of the Center for Energy Transition of Skoltech University Irina Gaida. Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Mikhail Varfolomeev contributed to the discussion.
“During the discussion, we discussed the main prerequisites and opportunities for energy transition in our country, and what are the trends on this issue in the global community. Special attention was paid to the issues of staffing and the launch of educational programs that meet the industry’s demands in the field of energy efficiency and climate agenda. In addition, it was possible to talk about technological trends that will ensure the development of the energy sector in Russia and reduce the negative impact on the environment. It is worth noting that Kazan Federal University is actively researching various technologies for carbon dioxide utilization, including natural systems, hydrogen production and transportation, development of models to account for greenhouse gas emissions,” comments Dr Varfolomeev.
The Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies is in charge of Russia’s Energy Transition, one of the five strategic projects of KFU’s Priority 2030 program. The project aims to create technological decisions for hydrogen energy, carbon dioxide monitoring, and potential of the hydrocarbon industry in sustainable development.
