First theses presented to Institute’s new dissertation board
The new board can accept dissertations in two specialization: 2.8.4 Development and maintenance of oil and gas fields (technical science) and 1.4.12 Oil chemistry (chemical science).
The board unites prominent researchers from KFU, Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry (Kazan), Ufa State Petroleum University, Almetyevsk State Petroleum Institute, and TatNIPIneft (Tatarstan Research Institute of Oil Industry). The board is headed by Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev, its scientific secretary is Senior Research Associate Anastasia Mikhaylova.
A dissertation on complex reagents for inhibition of hydrate formation during extraction and transportation of hydrocarbons was presented by Abdolreza Farhadian, Junior Research Associate of the Laboratory of Hydrate Technologies of Utilization and Storage of Greenhouse Gases.
“In this thesis, I have presented a new and promising technology of using water-soluble polyurethanes to manage hydrate and corrosion formation risks and incompatibility problems between them as an attractive alternative to the conventional approach to solve hydrate and corrosion blockage problems. These polyurethanes not only effectively inhibit gas hydrate formation and corrosion within oil and gas pipelines, but have also shown better inhibitory properties than commercial inhibitors. Because they are used in lower concentrations than methanol and glycols, they can significantly reduce operating costs,” says the young scientist.
A next work was by Seyedsaeed Mehrabi, Junior Research Associate of the Laboratory of In-Situ Combustion, and covered catalysts for enhanced extraction and viscosity reduction of heavy oils. He studies various catalysts in regard to their influence on the oxidation of oil and its heavy components, such as asphaltenes and tars.
Both candidates were unanimously approved for bestowal of the Candidate of Science degree (Russian equivalent of PhD).
