KFU organizes session at the 17th International Forum on Innovation Development via Intellectual Property Market

The event, distributed over 14 venues in several countries, with the main being Kutafin Moscow State Law University, united 800 persons from 26 nations.

The participants were greeted by President of Russia Vladimir Putin (via message), Chairman of the Association of Russian Lawyers Sergey Stepashin, Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vadim Ipatov, and others.

Vice-Rector of KFU for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev joined the plenary session, The Intellectual Property Market and National Competitiveness in the Digital Economy. His report was titled Prospects of Developing the Intellectual Property Market in Oil Prospecting and Extraction – Kazan Federal University’s Case. He also moderated the session Regional Intellectual Property Market in the Republic of Tatarstan: Problems and Prospects, held at Kazan Federal University.

The participants focused on intellectual property as a prerequisite to technological sovereignty and national competitiveness, frankly raising questions about problems hindering the growth of innovation.

Dr Nurgaliev commented, “The market potential of research is one of the key issues for academia. A huge part of universities’ R&D is not utilized by business or only used as services. The companies basically obtain the results by paying for R&D. Instead of license agreements we see comissioning contracts, device supply, etc. The businesses don’t even have internal procedures for obtaining the results of the intellectual property of universities. The absence of the intellectual property market in the nation stunts our development. And China was mentioned as a positive example. So we have a path ahead.”
