Tatarstan UpExPro 2024 organized at Institute
The conference was organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers KFU Student Chapter with the support of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies and the Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons.
From April 11 to 14, representatives of educational institutions, as well as young scientists and specialists of organizations of the oil and gas industry of Tatarstan took part in the VIII International Youth Scientific Conference Tatarstan UpExPro 2024.
On the final day of the conference, the winners of the conference and thematic sections were announced. Laboratory Engineer Guzel Sitdikova was among them. At the competition of poster presentations, she presented the research Synthesis and laboratory testing of sodium hydroxide organodispersions for in-situ desulfurization of high-viscosity oil.
“For me, participation in conferences is always a new experience and some kind of overcoming fears. This is not my first experience with scientific and practical conferences, and I can say that each time I feel more confident and have more fun. I like sharing the results of my work, seeing the interest in the eyes of the audience and thus attracting more and more attention to the research problem. Why TatarstanUpExPro? The native walls of the institute, the scale, partners, topical research topics and, of course, the exchange of experience with representatives of other universities and cities,” Sitdikova said.
Guzel Sitdikova works Laboratory of In-Situ Combustion under the guidance of Irek Mukhamatdinov, the winner of the Russian Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists in 2022. Today, according to her, research into the effectiveness of sodium hydroxide organodispersions and desulfurization is in principle a relatively new direction in her work, nevertheless, it has already borne fruit.
“Recently, there has been an increase in the production of high sulfur and high viscosity oils in various oil producing regions of the world. The presence of sulfur compounds negatively affects the environmental, transportation and operational properties of crude oil and petroleum products, and also causes corrosion of equipment. Sodium hydroxide effectively removes hydrogen sulfide, light mercaptans and thiols from oil products. Injection of organodispersion of sodium hydroxide with particle size in the range of up to 10 microns under certain conditions will allow not to contaminate the bottomhole zone and perform in-situ desulfurization of high-viscosity oil,” Sitdikova explained.
In the future, she plans to jointly use sodium hydroxide dispersion and catalysts for in-situ oil refining, which have already attracted considerable attention at Kazan University and beyond.
At the end of the competition, she received a diploma and accompanying gifts from Schlumberger.
The event was supported by Tatneft, TNG Group, Gazpromneft, Paker, Schlumberger, GeoIndicator, the Ecology-Geology-Oil Charity Fund and the Center for Advanced Training, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO).
