Rosneft Days hosted by Institute

Over 400 students from the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, the Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, and the Institute of Ecology, Biotechnology, and Nature Management of Kazan Federal University participated in the two-day career event.

Representatives of eight Rosneft subsidiaries attended a meeting with university management. Following the meeting, a series of events for students took place at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, including a presentation sessions, a job fair, the Oil Monopoly game, a casual meeting, an expert lecture, and a CV writing workshop.

KFU is a partner university of Rosneft. The partnership envisions joint work in personnel training, research and innovation, as well as organizational and financial support for the university, including corporate stipends for students and grants for faculty.

Prospects for cooperation with Rosneft were discussed at a meeting in the Board of Trustees’ hall. KFU was represented by Danis Nurgaliev, Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences; Alexander Bibik, Admissions Secretary; Andrey Teryokhin, Deputy Director for Educational Activities at the IGPT; Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships at the IGPT; Vyacheslav Saidashev, Head of the KFU Career Center; and Artur Akhmetshin, Head of the Center for Digital Competency Development.

Dr Nurgaliev delivered a presentation of Kazan University at the meeting. Speaking about priority research areas, he noted that not only representatives of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies are engaged in oil and gas developments; scientists from several KFU departments are also involved in this work, jointly conducting research and design work for various companies.

“We have many projects, including with Vietnam, Cuba, and countries such as Oman, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates,” Danis Nurgaliev said of the university’s international cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

Speaking about the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, the Vice Rector drew attention to the extensive career guidance work with schoolchildren, including work with students in Rosneft Study Rooms.

Ildus Chukmarov spoke about the Institute’s collaboration with Rosneft. He noted that the university and the company have signed a cooperation agreement. In 2024, the Rosneft Interdisciplinary Training Laboratory of Petrophysics and Physics of Oil Reservoirs opened at the institute.

“In 2023, nearly 700 employees from 142 company divisions completed training at the CdoGEO – Center for Advanced Training,” Chukmarov reported. “To date, more than 2,500 managers and specialists from Rosneft divisions have completed continuing education programs.”

Alexander Bibik further noted that sponsored study vacancies for students are posted on the Work in Russia online platform and explained the deadline for the client company to submit an application to be eligible for student recruitment within the project.

Vyacheslav Saidashev presented the activities of the KFU’s Career Center, emphasizing that Kazan University is very interested in collaborating with the company across all of the university’s more than 700 training programs.

Artur Akhmetshin described how KFU is implementing the Digital Departments project and invited Rosneft to co-develop educational programs for the Digital Competency Development Center.

Rosneft subsidiaries – RN-Yuganskneftegaz, Orenburgneft, Samotlorneftegaz, Kharampurneftegaz, RN-GRP, Bashneft-Petrotest, Vostsibneftegaz, and the Syzran Oil Refinery – participated in the job fair.

Kamilla Sultanova, a fourth-year student at the Institute of Ecology, attended the fair to find out how she could find employment with the company.

“It’s important for me to know where professionals are needed right now, so I attended the Rosneft career fair. They explained to me the company’s hiring requirements, the knowledge and skills an ecologist must possess to be hired, and the type of work they’ll be required to do,” she shared.

Dmitry Maltsev, Head of Oil and Gas Production at Vostsibneftegaz, told a journalist that Rosneft always has plenty of openings for people of various professions, with ample opportunities for career advancement.

“Our field is located approximately 1,000 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk, yet the living conditions there are excellent. There are stadiums, billiards, and nice gyms. We offer various shift employment opportunities,” Maltsev said.

Freshman Oleg Davleev successfully passed a test assessing his knowledge of the oil and gas industry at the job fair and won prizes.

“I believe I need to start thinking about where I want to work and what my future job will be, which is why I came to the career fair. I believe I’ll have an advantage when applying for a job if I know the company’s requirements for applicants and start preparing for the job search early,” said the student.

“Kazan University has been developing a strategic partnership with the leading oil company Rosneft since 2018, when a cooperation agreement was signed. Since then, our existing collaboration has reached a new level,” said Andrey Teryokhin. “On March 18 and 19, we held Rosneft Days, with the participation of eight of the company’s subsidiaries. The company’s activities are diverse, and therefore it requires not only experts in oil and gas technology, but also chemists, geologists, ecologists, economists, IT specialists, physicists, and mathematicians. All of them can complete an internship at the company and subsequently find employment.”

According to the deputy director, the main value of such events is that students have the opportunity to interact directly with future employers and ask them a wide range of questions.
