Alfayaad Assim Gani Khashim named Engineer of the Year in Tatarstan

He won in the Petroleum Science nomination.

The 6th Engineer of the Year competition attracted 300 participants from various industries. PhD student Alfayaad pitched an ultrasound treatment technology for bottom hole zones of reservoirs to enhance oil recovery. The topic is also the basis of his PhD thesis.

“My participation experience was very interesting, as many experienced young professionals and representatives of large companies participated with me. I faced strong competition and the need to fully demonstrate my skills and knowledge in order to successfully stand out among other candidates. Each stage was evaluated by company representatives who interviewed and analyzed our resumes and applications,” says Alfayaad.

The young scientist’s project is aimed at solving problems arising during oil and gas production at hard-to-recover fields. The technology of ultrasonic impact will effectively clean bottom hole zones of reservoirs, increase the volume of recoverable oil and gas, reduce the cost of operations to treat bottom hole zones of the reservoir, in the course of which a mathematical digital model will be developed. The so-called digital twin will help to increase production of high-viscosity oil and allow to evaluate the effectiveness of wave methods of enhanced oil recovery.

The winner has so far published 32 papers and notes, 2 textbooks, and 2 patents. One more patent is pending.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan and all partners of the competition for providing valuable opportunities and support to young scientists. Thanks to your participation and involvement of innovative ideas in science, we can increase the efficiency and development of the economy of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation. We very much appreciate your support and look forward to further mutually beneficial cooperation,” emphasizes the young scientist.

The Engineer of the Year award aims to discover and commend best engineers, enhance their professionalism, and draw more young people to the profession.
