Vice-President of Russian Gas Society: “KFU shows impressive results in various areas”

The IGPT was visited by the representatives of the Russian Gas Society and the Arab Federation of Industrial Cities and Zones on 29 August.
During the meeting with Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev and Deputy Director for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships Ildus Chukmarov, a discussion of a cooperation agreement between KFU and the Russian Gas Society took place.
The guests from the Russian Gas Society were Vice President, Executive Director Nikolay Isakov, Deputy Head of the Competence Center for Project Activities and Technologies Alik Vildanov, and international cooperation coordinator Farid Shabanov. The Arab Federation of Industrial Cities and Zones was represented at the meeting by Advisor on International Relations Mazen Kaisi.
During the conversation, Dr Chukmarov said that the Center for Continuing Education, Quality Management and Marketing (CdoGEO), which he heads, carries out retraining and advanced training of specialists in the oil and gas industry of Russia and foreign countries and gave examples of such cooperation.
Dr Nurgaliev told the guests about Kazan University, its structure, priority areas of development, and then presented the IGPT, focusing on its research activities.
“This is my third time in Kazan, and I am very happy about it. This year, at the Tatarstan Petrochemical Forum, I met with the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, and we discussed the opening of a representative office of our federation in Kazan. This is important because in 2026 your city will be the cultural capital of the Islamic world. Yesterday we signed an agreement with the Russian Gas Society. We plan to jointly invite specialists from the Persian Gulf and Africa who want to improve their qualifications in the oil and gas sector. We have heard that you have extensive experience in the educational activities. We know that KFU ranks 35th in the QS world ranking in petroleum engineering. This is simply wonderful! Our goal is to tell the Arab world that in Russia, in Tatarstan in particular, they can gain more knowledge than in Western countries. I believe that we can work well and actively with you and expand our cooperation,” shared Mazen Kaisi.
After the meeting, the guests were given a tour of IGPT laboratories.
“The Russian Gas Society created the Oil and Gas Academy so that our students could adapt to production activities more quickly and to relieve the staff shortage that the oil and gas industry is experiencing in a number of areas. Having visited the Institute, we learned that you have a strong, reliable cooperation with employers, and almost all students find their future job before graduation. We would like to understand how Kazan University manages to do this and extend this practice to other universities. In addition, we learned that KFU has a huge number of high-tech laboratories that allow for very in-depth scientific work. We were able to visit some of them today,” shared Nikolay Isakov.
He also noted that the agreement is planned to be signed at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, which will take place in October 2025.
“Earlier, we signed an agreement with the Arab Federation of Industrial Cities and Zones. We hope that our joint work on organizing the retraining of foreign specialists will bring success to Kazan University, as well as to those who will study here,” Isakov added.
“Our meeting with the leadership of the Russian Gas Society is very important. This society solves many problems related to legislation, promotion of innovations, and international cooperation. I think that in the near future our interaction with it will develop and will help us get even closer to companies, which will benefit both the educational and scientific activities of our university,” concluded Dr Nurgaliev.
