Several agreements reached with companies and government agencies of Oman

During a trip to the Sultanate of Oman to participate in the Oman Petroleum & Energy Show and the conference organized as part of it, employees of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of KFU visited oil companies and universities of this country.

Mikhail Varfolomeev, Director of the Technological Park of Low-Tonnage Chemical Technologies, Associate Professor of the Department of Petroleum Engineering; Ameen Al-Muntasser, Researcher of the Laboratory of Generation, Storage and Transportation of Hydrogen and Energy Carriers with Low Carbon Footprint, and Sergey Usmanov, Deputy Director for Methodological and Educational Activities of the Gazpromneft – KFU Scientific and Educational Center became participants in a number of meetings.

“We held a scientific and technical meeting with representatives of the Omani oil company Daleel Petroleum, joint projects with which we had previously implemented. During the meeting we discussed issues related to the development of our cooperation. In particular, they brought up projects in the field of chemical and gas methods of oil recovery enhancement. Representatives of Daleel Petroleum noted that interaction with Kazan University opens up great prospects for them in testing new oil and gas technologies, as well as they see great potential in the application of chemical reagents developed by KFU to enhance oil recovery,” Varfolomeev said.

According to the scientist, joint Russian-Omani projects aimed at supporting scientific research were discussed at a meeting with Farouk Al-Jahwari, head of the Oil and Gas Technology Center at Sultan Qaboos University.

“Colleagues from this university have shown interest in KFU research areas related to the creation of polymer and composite materials, catalysts, reagents for intensification of oil and gas production, as well as the use of KFU infrastructure for the implementation of complex joint projects. Their arrival is planned for participation in the events organized by Kazan University,” said the Director of KFU Technopark.

In addition, representatives of the Institute talked to Abdullah Abri, Deputy Director of Sohar Port and Freezone Special Economic Zone. The meeting reviewed the potential of commercialization of KFU’s developments in oil and gas technology and chemistry.

During a short meeting with Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman, a number of issues in higher education were raised.

“The Minister spoke with great respect about Kazan University and spoke in favor of expanding cooperation between our countries. Possible contacts in training, including exchange of students, were discussed,” Varfolomeev noted.

Agreements on the development of cooperation in oil recovery enhancement methods and oilfield chemistry were reached during talks with representatives of Petroleum Development Oman, a major oil and gas company, and OQ, a hydrocarbon production and processing company.
