Institute team GeoBars wins geological competition in Ufa

1st International Geological Contest GeoChallenge was held in Ufa, Bashkortostan, on 16 – 22 September 2023. Vocational school students and higher school freshmen and sophomores were eligible.

“The championship included many competitions, the most interesting of which for me was the Excursion Geological Trail. For it, it was necessary to make a project of an excursion trail in Ufa. For this purpose, we familiarized ourselves with the area in detail and, taking into account all its peculiarities, presented our own vision of the project realization. Unlike other competitions, the Excursion Trail is a pending project in which local authorities are interested. The teams proposed different variants – both realistic and unconventional. Another interesting competition was called Geological Route – a detailed description of the geology of the area with a field diary and sampling. The task allowed us to evaluate our practical skills,” said team member Kirill Gusev.

GeoBars came first in the team contest, including the five stage:

Geological Section – 1st place;

Paleontology – 3rd place;

Field Station – 1st place;

Geological Route – 2nd place;

Hydrogeology – 2nd place.

Team member Enzhe Shakirova thanked the organizers for their excellent effort and noted that Bashkortostan really charmed her with natural beauty and richness. She was glad to receive a core sample with gold particles as a prize.

Her teammate Roman Antonov shared the sentiment and hopes that GeoChallenge will become a regular competition.
