KFU IT Lyceum team wins 14th Russian Field Olympiad of Young Geologists
The tournament was organized in Almetyevsk District of Tatarstan from 27 July to 7 August.
32 teams from Russia and neighboring countries joined the competition. The IT Lyceum pupils won both all-Russian and international contests.
The team is called Romashki (Daisies) and trained by Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies student Bulat Gazizullin. He has been training the kids for this challenge since 2021.
This year’s tournament included 15 stages and a conference. Among the stages were Geological Route, Geological Section, Paleontology, Mineralogy and Petrology, Hydrology, Radiometry, Schlich Sampling, Oil and Gas, Work Safety, Field Station, and Geological Description. The contestants were equipped with all the necessary items, such as sleeping bags, tents, air mattresses, chairs, etc.
Team leader, 11th grade pupil Elina Latfullina noted the high level of competition at this year’s event. She personally contributed to three stages – Geological Description, Geological Route, and Oil and Gas. The latter brough her first place in individual awards.
Her teammate Sofia Balandina was the best in the Field Station competition.
The winners received personal tuition fee certificates for studies at Tatarstani unviersities from the sponsor, local oil powerhouse Tatneft. The next Geological Field Olympiad will be hosted by Perm Krai in 2025.
