Institute hosting 9th Tatarstan UpExPro youth scientific conference

The organizers of the two-day event, attended by representatives of 37 cities of Russia and several countries, are the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies and the Society of Petroleum Engineers Kazan Federal University Student Chapter.
Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director of the Institute for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships, head of the Center for Advanced Training, addressed the conference participants from the Institute’s management.
“We welcome you to the hospitable millennial Kazan, Kazan University, which celebrated its 220th anniversary in November 2024,” he said.
Dr Chukmarov said that KFU is 35th in QS Rankings in Petroleum Engineering.
“Meet, socialize, make friends, make useful connections at the conference,” he recommended to students.
He invited the participants of the conference to enroll in the master’s programs of IGPT, and also told about the possibility of further education in at the Center for Advanced Training.
Pavel Krylov, Deputy Director for Research, and Andrey Teryokhin, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, also addressed the audience in the auditorium. Dr Teryokhin reminded that in Russia there are a lot of opportunities for development and career building, including those in science. He wished everyone productive communication with like-minded people, which will allow young researchers to successfully develop in their chosen field.
From the organizers of Tatarstan UpExPro, Marat Validov, researcher of the Laboratory for the Study of the State and Evolution of Underground Reservoirs, made a welcome speech. He said that about 400 applications were submitted for the conference, with approximately 200 participants.
“We will hear about 110 reports. We have about 60 experts, 30 delegates,” he informed.
Next year, promised the speaker, the conference will be held in a completely new format and scale – “there will be something fabulous”.
The work of the scientific event is held in 9 sections: “Geology and geochemistry of oil and gas, geological modeling”, ‘Development of oil, gas and gas condensate fields and hydrodynamic modeling’, ‘Geophysics and geoinformation technologies’, ‘Processing, transportation and storage of oil and gas’, ‘Drilling and geo-navigation of oil and gas wells’, ‘Digital technologies in the oil and gas industry’, ‘Scientific works of postgraduate students’, ‘Scientific works of young specialists’, ‘Scientific works in English’.
In the section “Digital technologies in the oil and gas industry” the report “Analysis of the change of operating modes of mechanized well stock by methods of artificial intelligence” was presented by a young scientist from Tomsk Polytechnic University Alimadat Sadykov.
“Today artificial intelligence is being intensively implemented in the oil and gas industry, so my research is very relevant,” said Alimadat. ”I participate in this conference for the fifth time. There is always a great atmosphere here, more and more people come every year. For me, the most valuable thing here is communication, exchange of experience with colleagues.
Participation in such events, the young man believes, helps not only to get new competencies, but also to develop flexible skills.
In addition to reports, the program includes lectures from company representatives, intellectual games, the final of the Tatarstan UpExPro 2025 case championship, a job fair, tours to the Institute’s laboratories and the Shtukenberg Geological Museum.
Aysel Khalilova, a student of Tyumen State University, said that she and her friends came to the final of the case championship.
“The subject of the case is identifying profitable areas for drilling. We analyze and evaluate a real field, part of which has been studied, covered by drilling, and the remaining areas need to be studied, and then we have to offer solutions for their development,” she shared.
Pavel Blinov, Associate Professor of the Well Drilling Department of St. Petersburg Mining University, came along with a large team, “There are 11 representatives of our university participating in the conference. This is my first time in Kazan, but many of the students who came with me were here last year. They liked it very much, so they are happy to come back here. It is important for them to present their developments, to communicate with their peers – representatives of other universities, to get new experience”.
