KFU expanding cooperation with Tasma

Representatives of one of Russia’s oldest producers of photographic film visited yesterday.
The delegation was led by Yevgeny Samkov, director of the company. Accompanied by Marat Ziganshin, Director of the Institute of Chemistry; Mikhail Varfolomeev, Director of the Kazan Federal University’s Small-Tonnage Chemical Technology Park and Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering; and Igor Antipin, Professor of the Department of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the university’s guests toured the university’s research laboratories. The industrial partners learned more about the university’s research and technological projects, inspected the scientific and production equipment, and personally interviewed the heads of its research teams. Developments in polymers, film materials, organic synthesis, superstructural plastics and composites, sorption and catalytic processes, ultrafast calorimetry, and much more were presented.
Today, the Engineering Center for Heterogeneous Catalysis and Small-Tonnage Chemistry for Oil and Gas Production, the Institute of Chemistry, and the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies are equipped with the latest tools for applied research. Yevgeny Samkov discussed several options for joint projects.
“I am impressed. We saw many new things and were convinced of the laboratories’ capabilities. We saw that Kazan University is strong, including in applied chemistry. It offers conditions suitable for industrial enterprises, which is certainly of interest. During the introductory tour, many ideas arose that we will discuss,” he said, noting the University’s advances in film materials. “In my opinion, these developments are promising. We will discuss our future collaboration to study the needs of this product, opportunities for improvement, and bringing the technology to cutting-edge levels. This is where collaboration with Kazan Federal University is crucial.”
In the recent past, Tasma has worked closely with Kazan Federal University. Currently, collaboration with the Kazan Federal University’s Small-Tonnage Chemical Technology Park continues as part of a project to support innovation for small technology companies.
“Starting in 2025, we have been actively collaborating with Tasma. During this time, we have jointly developed process regulations and launched pilot production of four components necessary for the production of high-quality photographic films. The development of two more is currently underway. There are also plans for other chemical products for this industry. I am confident that we will continue to develop our cooperation,” shared Mikhail Varfolomeev.
Concluding the meeting, Samkov emphasized that today there are many reasons and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the context of the challenges that science and industry face equally. And today, for each enterprise to scale up and be competitive, the assistance of applied science is essential, which will undoubtedly lead to productive communication with customers.
