Representatives of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies spoke at the 12th All-Russian Congress of Councils of Young Scientists and Student Scientific Communities

This year it was held in Vladivostok, the youth capital of Russia in 2024, on 15 – 17 July.

The forum was attended by more than a thousand people from different provinces and other countries. In total, more than 1,800 applications for participation were submitted.

Iskander Vakhitov, Chairman of the Association of Young Scientists of KFU, Research Associate of the Laboratory of Heterostructures for Post-Silicon Electronics of the Institute of Physics, member of the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, shared KFU’s experience at the panel discussion Regional Measures of Support for Young Scientists: New Opportunities and Successful Practices.

“I spoke about the main support measures for young scientists in the Republic of Tatarstan, and in particular at Kazan University – both social and financial. At the session we talked about what support measures can be used by every scientist from Russian regions, how a young researcher can choose regional support tools for his research and get a grant from regional funds, as well as what place support measures for youth science take in the national rating of scientific and technological development,” commented Vakhitov.

Mikhail Varfolomeev, Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, member of the Presidential Council for Science and Education, took part in several panel sessions. Within the section Mom’s friend’s son: they were able to make money, dedicated to the interaction between science and business, he presented the experience of the Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons, which, according to Varfolomeev, in just a few years was able to become one of the leading centers in oil and gas technologies.

“Today, the Center actively fulfills projects of oil producing, oilfield service and petrochemical companies. It is also important that interdisciplinary teams work here, which allows to carry out large projects – this is one of the advantages of the scientific team of KFU. The unique projects that are currently being implemented at Kazan University and are in demand by companies were also presented. These projects are related to underground oil refining, gas technology, and other unique solutions. The second session presented in more detail the experience of forming a scientific group and interaction with companies, as well as the experience of implementing joint scientific and technical events, brainstorming sessions and organizing meetings with companies, which allow building long-term interaction between young specialists and young scientists. We also discussed the experience of implementing master’s degree programs – our students have the opportunity to be participants of real industrial projects, which increases the possibility of their interaction with companies. It is worth noting that some of the graduates, having worked in oil and gas companies for a certain period of time, return to the university and join the ranks of employees to train future specialists of the industry,” said the scientist.

Among other guests from KFU were Dmitrii Ivanov, Associate Professor of the Department of Molecular Systems Physics, and Alexander Shemakhin, Associate Professor of the Department of Radio Physics.

The event is organized annually by the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Scientific and Educational Spheres of the Presidential Council for Science and Education with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The purpose of the congress is to involve young scientists in solving important tasks for the development of society, as well as for the implementation of initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia.

A rich educational and cultural program was prepared for the participants – master classes, lectures, round tables and panel discussions by leading Russian scientists, experts, top speakers, leaders in science and technology.
