Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies ready to assist MNKT in enhancing productivity

MNKT, one of Tatarstan’s small oil and oilfield services companies, sent a delegation to our Institute to discuss its current business and possible points of mutual interest.

The guests toured the institute’s laboratories and then held a meeting with Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev and other IGPT employees.

Representing the company at the meeting were: Director of Production Radik Gizatullin, Head of Innovation Ilgiz Mingazov, Head of Oil Production Andrey Volkov, Head of Oil Preparation and Sales Department Ivan Khomchenko, Chief Geologist Nikolay Evseev, Head of Geology and Oil Field Development Vyacheslav Koloteev, Head of Well Maintenance and Overhaul Rustam Khalmetov, and Chief Specialist Rustem Minivaleev.

MNKT employees approached KFU to seek help from scientists to address the challenges they face during oil production. The company develops and services the Suncheleevskoye, Zapadno-Bureykinskoye, Agbyazovskoye, Aktanyshskoye, and Nurkeevskoye fields in Tatarstan.

Representing Kazan Federal University, the discussion was attended by Liliya Bakulina, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and representatives of IGPT: Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships; Pavel Krylov, Deputy Director for Research; Eduard Ziganshin, Senior Researcher at the In-Situ Combustion Laboratory; Viktor Kosarev, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geophysics and GIS; and Marat Validov, Lead Engineer.

The event began with a presentation by Dr Nurgaliev. Speaking about the Institute, he emphasized its training programs. The Vice-Rector noted that most master’s and doctoral students gain practical experience by working on projects during their studies, of which there are over 200.

“Our graduates have no problem finding employment. Company representatives regularly visit us, meet with students, and invite them to their companies. Students already know where they’ll be working from their junior or senior year,” said Danis Nurgaliev.

Ildus Chukmarov spoke about IGPT’s achievements in continuing education.

“We work with all of Russia’s leading companies. Each year, 1,500 oil and gas industry executives and specialists complete training at the Center for Advanced Training,” he emphasized.

Regional Geological and Petrophysical Work report was then presented by Marat Validov.

At the meeting, MNKT’s chief geologist outlined a range of issues that company representatives would like to address jointly with scientists.

“The meeting was very productive,” Mr Evseev shared after the meeting. “We toured the excellent laboratories. We noted their extensive functionality and the diversity of their research, and concluded that we can solve a large number of problems together with the scientists. Previously, we worked with Kazan Federal University scientists on routine tasks, such as specialized and standard core studies. Now we want to address more global issues, such as geological exploration, hydraulic fracturing, and reducing high water cuts in produced oil. I believe that we can address these challenges together with Kazan Federal University.”

According to Radik Gizatullin, reducing water cuts will allow the company to reduce energy consumption in production wells.

“Another challenge we’d like to overcome,” said the production director, “is corrosion at the oil and gas processing unit at the Nurkeevskoye field. The mixing of Devonian and Carboniferous emulsions during oil production leads to the formation of iron sulfide, which increases the rate of metal corrosion.”

Mr Gizatullin expressed hope for joint projects that will contribute to improving oil production efficiency.
