Aide to the Head of Tatarstan and university rectors visit the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies

The meetings took place on 28 March.

The tour was preceded and concluded by brief meetings at the Institute.

In the beginning, Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev spoke about KFU and the Institute in detail.

The guests then proceeded to the 3D Geo Center, as well as several laboratories – geomechanics; X-ray computed tomography; pertrophysics and physics of oil reservoir; hydrate technologies of utilization and storage of greenhouse gases; geochemistry, isotope and element analysis; geochemistry of organic matter of oil and rocks.

Aide to the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Albert Gilmutdinov noted, “The Institute indeed has world-level laboratories. I can say that with assurance because I have worked for many years in Europe and North America. It’s not enough to just have excellent equipment, you need to be able to work with it. Having visited these laboratories, I saw that here you have high-class professionals who are really enthusiastic about their calling. The combination of these two components – the material infrastructure and the professionalism – allows the Institute to achieve commendable results.”

He wished the Institute to enter the top 10 of global petroleum engineering institutions (currently 35th in QS rankings).

Chief Oncologist of the Volga Federal District Rustem Khasanov shared his impressions, “I have seen outstanding laboratories and got acquainted with very interesting research. Each of the labs is focused on its objectives. There are very professional employees who are excited to talk about their work. I am not a geologist, but I was fascinated about their stories of petroleum production. I also noticed equipment that can as well be used for medical research. The Institute has a bright present, and its future is undoubtedly breathtaking.”

Associate Professor of Kazan State Power Engineering University Alyona Vlasova was very impressed by the tour, “I liked everything very much. I saw that IGPT has the necessary equipment to conduct research at a highest standard. I would like to cooperate with your Institute in research.”

After the walkaround, Albert Gilmutdinov sat down to talk to academics.
