Award ceremony of the Interregional Association of Geography Teachers of Russia held at KFU

A certificate recognizing honorary membership in the association was presented by KFU Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev to Ilgizar Gaisin, Professor of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Geographical and Environmental Education, and Chair of the association’s regional branch in the Republic of Tatarstan.

For many years of productive work within the public and professional association of geography teachers of Russia, for a major personal contribution to the popularization of geographic knowledge, and in connection with the 180th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society as well as the 30th anniversary of the association, certificates of merit were awarded to Danis Nurgaliev; Andrey Teryokhin, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies; Ruslan Ulengov, Chair of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Geographical and Environmental Education; and Svetlana Gubeeva, Senior Lecturer of the same department. In addition, certificates were presented to schoolteachers from across the Republic of Tatarstan who are actively involved in the association’s work.

“I believe that geography teachers are very important people. Geographic education is of tremendous significance. One of the key components of a person’s general culture is geographic culture, and geographic education ensures its formation,” Dr Nurgaliev said during the ceremony.

Ruslan Ulengov shared long-awaited news with those present: enrolment has opened at the Center for Advanced Training for a new professional retraining program, Biology Teacher. Fifth-year students in the program of teacher education will be able to study under this program.

“It was nice to receive the award. We will continue instilling in children a love for geography and for our Motherland,” said Irina Shlyamina, a geography teacher at Gymnasium No. 93 in Kazan. “I was also pleased by the news that KFU has introduced a continuing education program for biology teachers. Those who complete it will have broader employment opportunities. I would like to note that geography and biology have quite a lot in common—they have many related topics and a great deal of overlapping material.”
