New developments discussed by Tatarstan Petroleum Chemistry Investment Holding

Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Mikhail Varfolomeev told about KFU’s new Center for Engineering Development in Low-Tonnage Chemistry.

The project aims to develop technologies of hydraulic fracturing, drilling, enhanced oil recovery, well treatment, gas and water blocking, product preparation and transportation.

During his report Mikhail Varfolomeev informed the audience about the creation of an engineering development center at KFU for the implementation of production chains of chemical products using Russian raw materials for deeper processing. Its establishment will make it possible to go all the way from a scientific idea to pilot production.

“Today one of the national development goals of the Russian Federation is technological leadership. Within the framework of this goal, a separate project, New Materials and Chemistry, is being formed. It is worth noting that the share of foreign chemistry in various areas ranges from 35% to 75%. The list of critical chemical products includes more than 700 items requiring import substitution,” the scientist explained.

In order to address modern technological challenges, Russia will launch engineering development centers, one of which is being created in Kazan, on the premises of Kazan Federal University.

“Kazan University has a lot of experience and the necessary developments. At the moment, the work on the new center has begun, and work is underway to obtain funds to purchase the necessary equipment. Active work with the ministries of industry and trade of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation, as well as TPCIH, continues. Agreements have been reached with the largest enterprises of the oil industry, fertilizer industry, and other areas to implement the activities of the center,” said Mikhail Varfolomeev.

“The topic is very interesting. It is very important to develop this area,” noted Rais (Governor) Rustam Minnikhanov.

The project is planned to be launched within a year.
