Geography has been studied at Kazan University since its inception in 1804. Training in geo-information technologies has been in place for over 20 years.

The main research area of the department is theory and methods of territorial development. Applied research is conducted in territorial development planning. Academic staff is engaged in the development of specialized geo-information systems, WEB-GIS and spatial data.
