380 young people receive diplomas at the Institute’s graduation ceremony

The new alumni were congratulated by Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev, Acting Director of IGPT Vladimir Silantyev, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs Andrey Teryokhin, Deputy Director for Continuing Education and Industrial Partnerships Ildus Chukmarov, Deputy Director for Social Welfare and Moral Education Natalya Khorkova, heads of departments, teachers, relatives, friends, as well as industrial partners of IGPT.

Representatives from China, Indonesia, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Slovenia, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Syria and other countries successfully completed their education at IGPT this year.

This year, 380 bachelors, specialists and masters of IGPT received graduation documents. They were presented by department heads and teachers. Deputy Chief Geologist of Surgutneft Karen Sarkisyants invited graduates to work for the company.

“I came from Indonesia,” said new alumnus Rafli Kartawangsa. “I chose the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies because I heard that you can get a very good education here. At first, I studied at the preparatory faculty, mastering the Russian language. After that, I studied for four years as a bachelor’s degree majoring in Petroleum Engineering. It was difficult to study in Russian, but I managed. I would like to enroll in a master’s program, and after graduating, return to my homeland and work in my specialty.”

Among those who received a diploma with honors is Elena Romanova, a graduate of the master’s program in Pedagogical Education – Ecological and Geographical Education

“I’m a little sad that two years of the master’s program flew by unnoticed. I would like to enroll in a doctoral program in Economic, Social, Political and Recreational Geography to delve deeper into my research. My master’s thesis is called Formation of cartographic skills using geographic information technologies. Under the guidance of Ruslan Ulengov, while still in my undergraduate degree, I began to consider various aspects of this issue,” she shared. “Now I work as a laboratory assistant at the Department of Theory and Methodology of Geographical and Environmental Education, and I am always in the center of events, communicating with students. I hope that in the future I will be able to try myself as a teacher. I managed to work for several months at the Lobachevsky Lyceum. It was a very rewarding experience – teaching geography to gifted children is not easy, but very interesting.”

Geologist Anastasia Kolobova also received a diploma with honors. Her immediate plans include enrolling in a master’s program at IGPT.

“For four years, the institute has become my second home. Here I made friends, and I had a huge number of acquaintances,” says Anastasia. “I was the first to speak at the defense, I was very worried, but everything went calmly – answering the questions of the certification commission was not difficult. I was writing my graduation thesis Comprehensive study of karst sinkholes near the settlement of Ulitino under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of General Geology and Hydrogeology Anastasia Garaeva for almost three years. During this time, I managed to speak at five conferences and win a competition for a scholarship from the mayor of Kazan.”

For three years, she was the chairwoman of the student council of IGPT.

“Combining studies and social activities was not difficult, but it was responsible,” she admits. “Together with the student council, under the leadership of Deputy Director Natalya Khorkova, we have implemented many interesting projects. I am grateful to the administration and teachers of the institute, my mentors, as well as our wonderful students for their support of all our ideas and endeavors.”
